Sunset Ridge Intermediate School is being recognized for high growth in English Language Arts (ELA) and Math proficiency rates and high ELA Student Growth Percentiles by the Washington School Recognition Program for the 2022-2023 school year.

The Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI) partners with the State Board of Education (SBE) and Educational Opportunity Gap Oversight and Accountability Committee (EOGOAC) to identify and recognize schools for the program.

"Being recognized by the state board of education for our high growth rates is a tremendous honor for Sunset Ridge Intermediate School,” said Todd Graves, principal of Sunset Ridge Intermediate School. “This achievement reflects the dedication and hard work of our students, teachers, and staff. However, we see this recognition not as a final destination, but as a milestone in our ongoing journey of continual improvement. We are committed to maintaining our focus on academic excellence and innovation to ensure that every student has the opportunity to reach their fullest potential."

Schools that are recognized are those that have been identified for school improvement support through the Washington School Improvement Framework (WSIF). Schools are recognized for closing gaps, growth, and achievement. The framework considers multiple measures including growth, achievement, and student success indicators like attendance and completion of dual credit coursework. Recognized schools will receive a banner to display in their buildings.

The Washington School Recognition Program was previously known as the Washington Achievement Awards. The program was on pause during the 2019-20 and 2020-21 school years as schools navigated the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Recognized schools like yours make great strides to improve outcomes for students by closing gaps and showing tremendous growth and achievement,” read the statement announcing the recognition. “This recognition is overdue, and we are thrilled to now be able to honor Washington schools like yours.”
